AIR FRESHENERS -- SURPRISE -- THEY'RE TOXIC!!
According to researchers from the University of Washington, air fresheners and fragranced laundry products can often emit dozens of chemicals, some of which are considered TOXIC by federal law
Ann C. Steinemann, PhD, tested 6 products, names withheld, and she did not find one brand that didn't emit at least one toxic chemical. Why should we be surprised? Making money comes first with their total disregard for human safety. According to Dr William Douglass at realhealth@healthiernews.com the manufacturers are already covering up. They proclaim their products are safe when 'used as directed' and the chemicals in question are present in amounts not known to cause health issues. However, Steinemann says her idea to reveal the study was born of the fact that she had for years been told my many people that household cleaners and air fresheners caused them to have dizzy spells, headaches, asthma, shortness of breath and even seizures.
The six products tested were liquid spray air fresheners, plug in air fresheners, fabric softeners, laundry detergents, dryers sheets and solid disc deodorizers used in airliner toilets. She found these six products emitted 100 VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS! To make matters worse, no current law requires disclosure of all chemicals in fragrances.
And beware, Steinemann found that fragrance-free products aren't much better. Many contain the same chemicals found in the scented products, even products labeled 'natural' or 'organic'. Dr Douglass recommends cutting open a lemon or orange, gather mint leaves or just leave a box of baking soda open. And think about it, when we buy the chemical products, we're PAYING to poison ourselves!!

I suspected grocery store brand spray air fresheners probably weren't good for you or the environment. The smells are anything but real but I never knew about fabric softeners and dryer sheets being bad.
I wonder with all the artificial scents around it is why so many more people are having allergic reactions.
Thanks for the information.
So many things are being produced that are bad for people and the environment. Why am I not surprised?
I'm glad I don't use these often. Sometimes though we do. Oust is the one that bothers me the most so I told my husband not to get that kind anymore.
thanks for this information, though we don't use insect or air fresheners spray but still there's no exception for we use laundry detergents and fabric softener..haayyy what we gonna do to get rid of all these harmful chemicals?
